OK since we're on the subject, the neck protectors I've seen are basically a
fancy looking folded washcloth. They don't look very protective. Now am I
missing something or what?

CHA Rule 24(f)

The wearing of a BNQ approved throat protector is compulsory for players
registered in Minor and Female Hockey. If a Referee discovers that a
hockey player is on the ice and is not wearing a BNQ approved throat
protector, a Mionor penalty is to be assessed to the player,

Unfortunately, neck protectors are designed to protect you from "skate
cuts" but do offer soem protection from pucks.

I once took a stick in the throat. It caught the bottom of my face
shield first which lessened the blow, but I realized then how dangerous
a stick or puck in the throat could be. Is there a throat protection
device out there that offers more then just skate protection?

So we're job hunting - again, still, or whatever. With two daughters:
14 year old defense(wo)man and 9 year old goalie. Anybody out there
who can tell me what the hockey opportunities are in southwest
Michigan (Kalamazoo area). Grand Rapids down to about South Bend IN
wouldn't be bad. Also looking at northeast Ohio between Cleveland and
Erie PA. Any help from either area would be appreciated.

YES! There is a neck/throat protector that has a plastic(?) ring
inside it. Mine is white with a little tab on the bottom front to tie
it to the front of your shoulder pads. It velcro's in the back like
most of the others. They are out there. Your hockey shop should know
what it is and try to get one for you if they want you to keep going
in there:)
