The February 1998 issue of Chatelaine has a cover story on the Canadian
women's team. Featured on the cover is a picture of Cassie Campbell.
The article is well done.
For anyone who can not get a copy of Chatelaine, they do have a website:
www.chatelaine.com.
Enjoy.

CHICAGO ICE WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL "BLACK & BLUE" TOURNAMENT
                     APRIL 24, 25, 26, 1998

The Chicago ICE Women's Hockey organization cordially invites you and your
team to join us in celebrating our first ever "Black & Blue" Women's
Tournament to be held April 24-26, 1998. The tournament will be held at
our home rink, Johnny's Ice House, the 'coolest place in the Windy City.'
The rink is 5 minutes from downtown Chicago attractions and is in the
shadow of the United Center!

The Black & Blue entry fee is $400 and must accompany your team
regristration/roster form. There will be 2 senior divisions (B&C) with 4
teams in each division. The divisions are based on the Women's Central
District League (WCDL) skill levels. All teams guaranteed 3 games & a
weekend full of laughs, fun & good hockey. Admission is free for all
spectators, so bring your family and friends. They can always shop at
Water Tower Place or at Michael Jordan's Restaurant (not house!) if they
can't handle the fast pace of midwest women's hockey.

*	Entry deadline is 2/28/98, with acceptance on a first come basis
	until each division is filled.

*	Commerative tournament memorabilia for all players.

*	USA Hockey sanctioned event, therefore all players must be
	registered.

*	USA Hockey tournament rules will apply.

*	All games will be 60 minutes, 3-11 minute stop periods.

*	Medals for 1st and 2nd place teams in each division.

*	No refunds after March 16th, $200 refunds allowed if director
	is notified by March 15.

*	Information packets will be sent out after your roster has
	been received.

*	Any questions, feel free to call Mary Gutowski, 773.794.8990
or e-mail the Chicago ICE at "email@hidden."

*	Games begin 6 pm on Friday the 24th, with the Championship games
beginning on Sunday the 26th at 11 am.

*	Miscellaneous 'unofficial/unconventional/unhockey' contests,
prizes and awards will be ongoing conducted by our 'Black & Blue'
Tournament committee. You'll have to be there to believe it.

On behalf of my team,
Laura Moss

Jessica, try these web sites. I don't know if they can help, but anything's
possible.

Ralph Slate's page

Both of them have numerous links.

Can anyone tell me what Intermediate C teams would be
equivalent in the US? Thats the level we're playing.
My team, a
Midget B, will be going to this tournament next
weekend, its a 6 hour drive for me, and 4 to 5
hours for everyone else on my team. Im just curious
because we havent played one yet. The only
older teams we've played are the BGSU, Plymouth and
OSU teams. I'm also one of the youngest on my
team. I think were playing Scarborough, London, and I
forget the third, maybe Hamilton?

With the Olympics just around the corner, can anyone recommend the best web
sites for tracking the performances of Team USA and Canada in Nagano during
the Games?

In my opinion, the best sites for following news of Team Canada this season
have been:
The Toronto Star (http://www.thestar.com/thestar/index.html) - go to Road
to Nagano section
The Sun family of papers (http://www.canoe.ca/SlamNaganoHockeyWomen/home.html)
Canadian Hockey Association web site (http://www.canadianhockey.ca)

I really enjoy the frequently-updated information about the Canadian
women's team provided through the CHA site. It's well-done, informative,
and entertaining. The two newspaper sites I mentioned have often had game
scores earlier than the CHA site, so far, and have also had game write-ups
and interviews that were more interesting to read than the CHA press
releases. The Star has announced that they will update their on-line
Olympic news continuously throughout the day, without waiting for the
release of each day's print edition.

The Southam family of papers hasn't seemed to have as much coverage of the
women's games as the other papers. There isn't much yet on the Canadian
television websites from the CBC and TSN, but I'll be watching them as the
Games approach.

The USA Hockey site provides so much less information about their women's
team, in comparison to CHA's efforts, that it's almost embarrassing. The
updates have been infrequent and slapdash. It's hard to find recent game
scores. Some links don't seem to be well labelled. The formatting is
unfortunate - the user-set preferences for font and font size have been
over-ridden with a large type face that occupies a small column at the
right hand side of the page, so that you need to scroll a long way to read
much of anything, while the left hand half of the page is taken up by a
menu thing. I don't think there's an invitation for feedback on the site.

I've looked at a few US media sites about the women's hockey teams
preparing for the Olympics (CBS, and USA Today, for example), but I haven't
checked them frequently enough to comment.

I'm sorry that some of this is vague, but my web access isn't behaving at
the moment. Not that I can complain - it seems that lots of other people
in Eastern Ontario are still without heat and electricity after the ice
storms ...

Here's what I'd like to read about during the Olympics:
Game scores and scoresheet info as soon as possible, for all the games -
not just Canada and the USA.
Description of games and tactics by knowledgeable observers.
Interviews and "human interest/background" stories about members of all
teams, coaches, and referees.
Accurate calculations of how future results will affect the standings (i.e.
X must win today to place first; if X and Y tie, Y will be ahead ...)
Reports of women hockey players participating in Olympic traditions such as
opening ceremonies, athletes' village, etc.
Statements by officials of IIHF, Olympic committees, delegation leaders,
etc, which have implications for the future of female hockey.
Acknowledgement of the importance of this tournament to "people back home".
(How many people watched on TV, "man in the street" interviews in a sports
bar, at a little girls' tournament, etc, how many commercial tie-ins do the
women's teams have ...)

Subject: Website Update - Women's Hockey Pictures

We have implemented the following updates on our
Women's Hockey Photo Website:

1: Team Canada and Team USA pages are redone, players listed
alphabetically.
Because of the large amount of thumbnail photos, both these pages
take some time to load, please be patient.

2: The "New Photos" section has 10 more photos. The previous photos
in this section have been put into their respective categories.

3: The Team Canada statistics are updated as of January 10.
Our thanks to the people at Canadian Hockey for this information.

Any comments / suggestions about the site are always welcome.
We are also looking for YOUR pictures, to put on our site. Thumbnails
around 4k and large pics 30-40k. If you cant scan we can do it for
you. We cannot pay for photos, sorry. Remember, this site is a
personal side to our commercial business, we don't make money on
this.(But we sure spend it !). E-mail for further info.
