Again...for all you out there who might have missed my last post to the
list, here is why the five were nixed from the Wheaties box.

This pretains to Angela Ruggiero only:
The rule applies if you are a junior/senior in high school and have signed
a letter of intent to the college you are planning to attend. Once you
have committed/signed that letter of intent, full NCAA rules apply.

For the rest of the other four who are already in college, here is the
explination on that:
If you are currently in college and play for the college you are attending,
you are bound by the rules of the NCAA at all times, weather on season or
off season. This applies to all NCAA sports, men and women. In some
sports you are also not allowed to hold a full/part time job while playing
under the NCAA sanaction. Although currently schools are fighting with the
NCAA to get the rule overturned.

If you want more information on the above plese check out http://www.ncaa.org

I was so glad to see that thw USA Women's hockey team got on the Wheaties box!
I will be buying a lot of Wheaties come March 2nd. ;) I was wondering, are
these boxes collectors items (or will they be in time)? I remember seeing an
autographed Wheaties box on sale at a sports memoribillia store one time...
If these are collectors items, how sshould they be kept? Unopened and in mint
condition? Or is it okay to take the bag of food out first?

GO TEAM USA!!!!

Bandanas are good. I have one that is shaped, not a
square one, round with strings on the back, its
pretty cool, I usually put my hair in a ponytail or a
braid. Then the bandana keeps any hair that comes out
or any shorters hairs out of my face. I do have long
hair. Im 15 and have never had it cut, only trims.

As for the piercing, I don't think it will get in
your wat, cause the helmet shouldn't touch down their.

One last thing about this fluid thing from me:

I'm hypoglycemic, so my doctor recommended Gatorade to me; I was getting
dizzy and having vertigo attacks at the gym. Oops!

The gatorade has fixed the problem.

However, I'm one who subscribes to the "8 8-ounce glasses of water a day"
as a general principal (my body likes to dump calcium in my left kidney),
so I find that as a dehydration thing, the gatorade doesn't do much for
me; I still come home craving a nice glass of water.

and yep, I indulge.

Don't forget the benefits of drinking water versus coffee, soda, whatever
during the day/evening: aid in digestion, clearer skin... and no worries
of being dehydrated on the ice!

Stay well, everyone. Keep on drinking!

Once a piercing is healed, it should not cause you any trouble. It will
lie down flat under the helmet and shouldn't get infected. However,
sweat CAN irritate piercings that aren't healed (especially for some
people), so you'll need to either

(a) get pierced at a time when you'll be taking a
break from hockey (hah! does that ever happen?? :) or

(b) talk to the piercer about ways to keep it healthy while it's healing.
You could be sure to wipe it off between shifts and then clean it (with
whatever solution your piercer recommends) as soon as the game's over.
This will probably work fine if your skin isn't too sensitive AND if you
make the commitment to keep it as clean as the piercer recommends.
Beware, tho, that if you end up getting an infection, your skin can scar.

I have thought about getting my eyebrow pierced for a long time, but since
I know from past experience that my skin is really sensitive to sweat, and
since I don't want to break from hockey AND I don't want to risk a scar on
my eyebrow, I've never had it done.

Best of luck!

Wendy

contributes her sucess. (dedicated Hockey Mom for my #29 The Wall)

NCAA says it's illegal for the five players to be on the box. Why couldn't
General Mills have just put those 5 players' jersey's, with their name and
number showing, behind the rest of the team in that pic? This way at least
every team member would have "been there" so to say. Any opinions?

I used to have to wear mouthguards when I played field hockey. To make them
more comfortable we trimmed the back. Talking was a bit of a challenge two
terms you yell in a field hockey game are "flat" and "through"(has to do with
your orientation form the person with the ball), and it always sound like flat
and fough. I guess you just get used to the way words come out.

We had to have mouth guards for roller hockey. I dunno which brand I got, but
it was just one of those cheapy ones, maybe 3 dollars at most. It was a little
big even after boiling, either that or mouth is just really weird. But I
couldn't talk in it. And we had to do a drill where you talk to your teamates
and whats going on, like if somebody was behind them or something, that was
kinda hard. I don't remember if I had problems breathing with it, I might
have. I don't really like wearing them, they dry your mouth out easier, well
mine did anyway and after a two minute shift it My mouth had a funny taste in
it. Of course one time I forgot to put it back in before I went back out, that
could've been bad, luckily nobody noticed. I have to get a new one this year,
since you're only supossed to use them for a year, and plus by puppy found it
in my room one day and slobered all over it. One question though, I cut off
the little band thingy that connects it to your helmet (since I don't have a
cage or anything) should I keep that strip on it, is it useful? well I kinda
know the answer to that, but is it just easier to keep it on?

lt must be disappointing for the Team to have a ruling like that from NCAA.
l know it's not General Mills fault but l still think l would have to say,
"We got here as a team and we'll finish as a team, so if we can't all
participate we will have to decline the wonderful offer." Hopefully the
publicity of that descision would help NCAA realize they made an
incredibily dumb ruling!

The fact of this ruling has certainly gotten a lot of attention. It's clear
that every normal person in North America realizes how incorrect it is.

Hockey National Team from its rule prohibiting commercial
endorsements, and encourages USA Hockey and the General Mills
Corporation to re-shoot the Wheaties Box cover to include all the
	members of the team.

The NCAA realizes that the concepts of team work and team unity, and

Please be aware that this is not a change in policy on the part of

Hey,
Well, if I were you I'd leave the strip that attached the mouthguard to the
helmet on. A new USA Hockey rule requires that all players wear a colored
mouthguard, that's clearly attached to the helmet or cage of the helmet. If
you don't like the strap, just leave enough of it on to put a tiny hole in,
cut the rest off, and tie a string or lace through it. It's not as big as
the plastic strip, so it's easier to see through, and doesn't put the
mouthguard right in your face, you can adjust the distance by the length of
the string or lace.
Also, I'd leave it in for safety purposes. Your get nailed, your head tilts
back, your mouth opens funny on impact, and your mouthguard goes halfway
down your throat as you choke on the ice...NOT COOL! Speaking from
experience, it's much more comfortable and safe to attach the mouthguard to
the helmet. It can also keep you from spitting the mouthguard out when
you're hit hard, before you land on the ice. This can help prevent a
concussion(another speaking from experience incident, several times repeated
before I learned!).
The most important use of the strap: you don't lose your mouthguard! If
you're anything like me, that tiny mouthguard is just waiting to be lost
inside my giant goalie bag. Attached to my helmet, assuming I don't lose
that, I know right where it is, and don't have to scramble around the rink,
pouring hot water into a plastic cup and trying to mold the mouthguard 5
minutes before the game starts.

Good luck between the pipes!

I think stories like this one and the fact that teams in Alaska had to sue to
get ice for girl's hockey programs are a sad reminder of how far we have to
go. I've been grateful for the exposure these past few weeks because it has
given me so many opportunities to educate people on the benefits of sports for
girls and how desperately girl's programs need support. Unfortunately, this
story can go in my *portfolio* with the Alaska Firebirds. :-(
