{blinks HARD} I don't know ... that subject line is as much of a spoiler
given the circumstances of this tournament -- a bronze medal contender giving
up ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SHOTS?? -- as the following subject line:

Whoever said Canada walloped japan 23-0 was a little over-anxious.
The real score was 13-0. Still a clobbering, but not so ridiculous.
Reddon and RhŽaume shared the shutout.

Yeah it was 13-0, but Canada outshot Japan 64-3, I
think. Im really glad of that, GO CANADA. I just
hope that if I have the chance to play nationally,
notice the word if, it would be for Canada, but I
might be getting a US citizenship.

I was told that if I would happen to get an American
citizenship, I could still play on Canada, is that true?

Subject: Women's Ice Hockey in Austin, TX.... for real!

Fans of the women's game,
Following the success of Austin's first women's ice hockey tournament in
November, 1997, a local rink has decided to start a program for women of all
skill levels to play and practice in an organization with a coach. Simply
unprecedented! I have been in contact with the President of Chaparral Ice
Center, the rink that hosted the tournament, and they are going to run a
trial 10 week session with a premium ice time starting sometime after spring
break. I'll post the exact dates as they become finalized. Right now, the
plan is to play Sundays from 10:30 - noon. There will be drills and
scrimmage during each one and a half session. Every other week or so we
will scrimmage against the novice men. I am still negotiating a cost with
the hockey director (since I am a poor college student) but a ballpark
figure is $150 for the ten weeks, including USA hockey membership. Not bad.

What will become of the Central Texas Furies? Well, hopefully, grad school
willing, we will be able to run the team out of the Chaparral program so
that we can travel to tournaments and be competitive. Since our illustrious
conception, local news has become more interested in the story. If you like
in the Austin area, K-EYE is compiling a story that will include the
Olympics, the new Women's League in New England, and our local team's
victory at the tournament in November.

Please pass this information along to anyone in the central Texas area
(including Houston and Dallas). The only thing we need now are women
excited about hockey!

Email me directly for more information. email@hidden

Just a bit of warning - their ego's may lead to them playing a bit rougher
than you like. This could be a problem, and somewhat discouraging
especially if the women are just starting out. You may want to choose-up
sides - making each team 1/2 men & 1/2 women to avoid a "battle of the sexes."

Hey, my first cross-posting to both the UK and women's groups.

After watching plucky Japan get steamrolled last night by Canada (13-0,
shots 64-3) it made me ponder how many other countries could have put up a
reasonable show. As the playing field is rather wide, women's hockey being
"new", there must be chances for countries where the game is developing to
get on the bandwagon.

What's the current status of the UK national women's team? Is Olympic
qualification subject to the Pool your team is in? Where do the UK team
compete?

Just curious.

Okay, folks -- because of the disparity in reporting and broadcasts
different countries get, PLEASE help us in minimizing getting people
upset.

If you're going to discuss the women's olympic results, please do the
following:

1) Make it clear in the subject line,

and

2) do NOT put results in the subject line.

That will allow those that don't want games they haven't watched yet
spoiled, without forcing those with differing schedules to wait
unnecessarily. and remember, there's more to this list than the U.S.
and Canado, so even if CBS and CBC have broadcast something, it might
not have reached all of our audience.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

I've sent out a request that people avoid spoilers in subject lines.
Everyone's cooperation is encouraged, but if mistakes happen, don't
jump on people.

And please, in situations like this, come to myself or Laurie. Don't
play list mom yourself, lest you become a bigger problem than the one
you're trying to solve without realizing it. The last thing we need is
a flamewar over people arguing about this stuff. That's why we tell
folks to let US play List Mom, and not do it themselves.

That's even MORE important when you're upset about something, as Chuck
was, as you tend to say things that aren't constructive to resolving
the situation....

Give credit to the Japanese goaltender -- she really held off the
Canadians for a while, or it would have been a lot worse. When a team
gets a power play, as the japanese did a couple of times, and not get
it across the red line, there's a serious mismatch.

I did appreciate the Japanese courage and hustle. They have a way to
go, but they gave it a solid try.

The problem l have with Nike is their whole business is built on
perception. Get some stars to use your product throw some sponorships out,
make everyone feel your a great Company.
What is the reality? So far their skates have been very poor, not to
mention ugly!
People in the business tell me that over 50% have been returned with defects!
The Bauer Company used to be a family company where quality was
everything. They can't compete with huge companies who have millions to
spend on promotion. l suspect they sold out to Nike knowing that Nike would
make it hard for them to compete. l understand that Nike skates are not
being made at Bauer. l'm not sure about that though. lt would probably
explain why there are so many problems. How long will it be before Nike
decides to close the Canadian Bauer plants and move that production to
lndia or some such place where they can pay kids pennies a day to make
skates! Oh well they could sponsor a few more teams and get afew more stars
to wear them and everyone will forget the rest??

Just a quick note to congratulate the North York Aeros on winning the Ontario
Women's Hockey Association's Senior AAA Provincial Championships. The Aeros
defeated the Mississauga Chiefs 3-2 in over-time, on a goal from Sommer
West, assisted by Angela James. Congratulations also to the Chiefs for
playing an outstanding game, and coming back from a two goal deficit in the
third period to force over-time. The Aeros will now represent Ontario at
the Canadian National Championships to be played in Calgary in March.

I'm beginning to wonder if the "bad press is better than no press at all"

It referred to an article in a German paper that said quote "Shannon Miller
