Subject: Ahh.. Another day in the life of the Newbie..

	And the saga continues...
To recap, I worked my butt off for 2 months skating with the Varsity hockey
team, tried out, didn't make it, but got rewarded for my efforts with a job as
manager. Don't get me wrong I'd much rather be on the ice getting the tar
beaten out of me than freezing in the press box.
I am enveyed by one of the snottiest girls in school. Emily: been playing
hockey since she was seven, knows all of the guys on the team, but didn't try
out. Didn't even skate once, but has decided she should be manager.
As you might be thinking, "Um, No." She does not have a right to claim hold
of me possison. She knows that, I know that, the guys on the team know that.
But still she hisses and moans how the girls who are manager " slowed down
practice, and wouldn't have made the team anyway." Well if we slowed it down
so much, why didn't you try out? "I knew i wouldn't make it anyway"
And that is supposed to stop you? There were at least 15 guys who tried out
that knew they wouldn't make final cut, that didn't stop them.

Guess I just needed to vent. *grrr* That girl really bothers me sometimes,
but I am manager, I am trying out again next year, and she can't stop me. =P

THIS WEEK--Minnesota will play its fourth game in seven days as the Gophers host
Gustavus Adolphus, Thursday, at Mariucci Arena beginning at 7 p.m.

Thursday's affair is Minnesota's final game before beginning a 15-day layoff for
final exams.

MINNESOTA RECENTLY--The fifth-ranked Gophers won their second consecutive
Princeton Thanksgiving Invitational by winning three games over the weekend.
They opened with a 5-2 win over fourth-ranked Northeastern and followed with a
3-1 win over co-fifth-ranked Princeton. With the title already in hand,
Minnesota pounded Queen's University 10-0.

With the three wins, the Gophers raised their record to 7-1-1 on the season and
extended their winning streak to six games.

Jenny Schmidgall (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Nadine Muzerall (Mississauga,
Ontario/Kimball Union Academy) each had four-point games and Erica Killewald
(Troy, Mich./Troy) stopped 32 shots in the 5-2 win over Northeastern.

The Huskies outshot the Gophers 14-9 in the opening period but Killewald kept
Northeastern at bay and Muzerall and Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass./Buckingham
Browne & Nichols) scored to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead.

Emily Buchholz (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) increased the lead to 3-0 with a power-play
goal just 1:33 into the second period. Schmidgall made it 4-1 with 3:07 to play
in the middle frame and scored her second goal of the game just 32 seconds into
the final period to give the Gophers a 5-1 lead.

Saturday's tilt with host Princeton got off to a slow start as the teams battled
through a scoreless first period, but Schmidgall scored on a power play at 4:01
of the the second period to put Minnesota on top. The Tigers' Ali Coughlin made
it 1-1 at the 10:14 mark but Matty Brekken (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake)
scored the eventual game-winner at 14:27 and Ambria Thomas (Fairbanks,
Alaska/West Valley) scored with 1:25 to play in the period. Killewald turned in
another stellar performace, turning aside 25 of 26 shots for her fourth win of
the season.

Sunday saw the Gophers rout Queen's behind a hat trick by co-captain Kris Scholz
(Hugo, Minn./Stillwater Area) and a four-point performance by Schmidgall while
Brekken scored a pair of goal. Crystal Nicholas (Tulsa, Okla./Union) stopped six
shots, five in the final period, for her third shutout of the season.

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS RECENTLY--The Gusties have been off since a 10-0 win over
Wisconsin-River Falls, Nov. 22. Sarah Garrison and Jenny McCall led Gustavus
with a pair of goals and one assist each.

Gustavus, now 4-2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference, broke open a tight game by exploding for seven goals in the second
period, outshooting the Falcons 19-0 during the 20-minutes.

Before taking on the Gophers Thursday, the Gusties will be on the road for a
conference game at St. Catherine's, Wednesday.

Gustavus Adolphus is under the guidance of Scott Moe, in his second season as
the Gusties' head coach. A 1995 graduate of Gustavus, Moe was an All-American
golfer during a standout four-year career. He also played one year for the
Gustie hockey team and spent one season as an assistant coach with the men's
team before taking over the women's program.

The Women's Hockey News co-coach of the year last season, Moe is currently
20-14-1 at Gustavus.

IN THE RECORD BOOK--For the second year in a row, Nadine Muzerall six assists at
the Princeton Thanksgiving Invitational.

With 12 career assists at the tournament, Muzerall has tied 1998 U.S. Olympic
captain Cammi Granato of Concordia University. Muzerall set the tournament
record for assists with six last year and tied the mark again this season.

With 17 points, Muzerall ranks third all-time in tournament history with Granato
setting the record of 27 during her three years at Concordia.

Jenny Schmidgall, with nine points, tied for second for points in a tournament,
a mark which both Muzerall and Ambria Thomas reached last season.

MS. ZERO--Despite being relatively untested in her first three collegiate
starts, Crystal Nicholas has still not been scored upon in her first 180 minutes
of action.

All three of her wins have been by identical 10-0 scores and she has made 20
saves in those three outings, including a high of 13 versus Minnesota-Duluth,
Nov. 15.

LIKE A ROCK--The goaltending of Erica Killewald and Crystal Nicholas has been
outstanding for the Gophers this season.

As the team's number-one goalie, Killewald has not allowed more than two goals
in six starts this season, boasting a 1.41 goals against average and a .943 save
percentage, including marks of 1.48 and .953 versus ranked opponents this
season.

Nicholas now has a team record streak of 180 consecutive shutout minutes.

POWER SURGE--The Gophers' power play was 6-for-14 on the weekend, including a
3-for-3 effort in SundayÍs win over Queen's.

Kris Scholz scored two of the three power-play goals versus Queen's while
Courtney Kennedy had the other and also scored one versus Northeastern. Emily
Buchholz also had a power-play goal in a 2-for-8 effort versus the Huskies while
Jenny Schmidgall had MinnesotaÍs lone power-play tally against Princeton.

REPRESENTING THEIR COUNTRY--In December, Jenny Schmidgall and Winny Brodt
(Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) will play for Team USA at the Three Nations
Cup in Finland.

The pair was chosen from the USA Hockey Women's Festival for the national team
and will be joined by Gopher head coach Laura Halldorson, who will serve as the
teamÍs assistant coach, as part of the USA contingent.

THE COACHES--Now in her second season behind the Minnesota bench and ninth
season as a college head coach, Laura Halldorson has established herself as one
of the nation's premier coaches in womenÍs hockey, sporting an 87-83-13 overall
record and a 28-8-4 mark at Minnesota.

She began her coaching career at Colby College, where she led the White Mules,
one of only two non-Division I schools at the time in the 12-team Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference, to a 12-9-1 overall record in 1995-96, earning
ECAC Co-Coach of the Year honors as well as being named the New England Hockey
Writers' Coach of the Year. While at Colby, she also recruited and coached ECAC
Player of the Year Meaghan Sittler.

At the national level, she was the assistant coach for the gold medal-winning
team at the 1998 U.S. Olympic Festival. In December, she will serve as an
assistant for the U.S. National team that competes in the Three Nations Cup in
Finland.

A native of Plymouth, Minn., and a 1981 graduate of Wayzata High School,
Halldorson played four years at Princeton, where she was a co-captain and
all-conference performer while leading the Tigers to three Ivy League titles.
She graduated from Princeton in 1985 with a degree in psychology.

A member of the 1987 U.S. National Women's Team and three national club
championship teams with the Minnesota Checkers, Halldorson returned to her alma
mater in 1987 to begin her collegiate coaching career as an assistant.

ITÍS HOME--The home of Gopher Women's Hockey is Mariucci Arena (9,700). One of
the finest college hockey facilities in the country, Mariucci Arena will be
Minnesota's home until the new women's hockey facility, scheduled to open in the
fall of 2000, is completed.

Known as one of the toughest arenas in the nation on visiting teams, the Gophers
are 13-3-4 in the five-year-old building.

ON THE AIR--A pair of Gopher games will be aired live by Midwest Sports Channel
this season.

The first telecast was Minnesota's clash with Harvard, Nov. 5, in the opening
game of the All-American East-West Challenge.

The second will be part of a doubleheader with the Minnesota men's team on Feb.
20. The women's game gets underway at 2:30 p.m. as the Gophers take on
Providence, to be followed by the men's clash with St. Cloud State at 7:05 p.m.

Veteran broadcaster Frank Mazzocco will handle play-by-play duties while former
Minnesota North Star Tom Reid does the color commentary.

ON THE AIR, PART II--Eight Gopher games will be carried by KKMS-980 AM radio
this season, beginning Nov. 27 with the Princeton Thanksgiving Invitational.

KKMS broadcast the Friday and Saturday games from Princeton's Hobey Baker Rink
and will carry Minnesota's Jan. 29-30 games from the Towse Center at the
University of New Hampshire Invitational.

Additionally, KKMS will carry four home games: Feb. 5 versus Cornell; Feb. 7
versus Minnesota State, Mankato; Feb. 21 versus Providence; and Feb. 26 versus
Brown.

Tom Witschen will call all of the play-by-play action with former Gopher
volleyball player Sarah Pearman handling the color commentary.

TOUGH SCHEDULE--Minnesota has already faced four ranked teams this season,
posting a 2-1-1 record in those games.

The Gophers will play eight of the nine other teams ranked in the preseason U.S.
College Hockey Online poll for a total of 12 games. Dartmouth is the only ranked
team Minnesota does not face during the regular season.

In addition to those 12 games, Minnesota will face defending Canadian
Interuniversity Athletic Union champion Concordia twice and 1998 CIAU runner-up
Toronto once.

GONE POLLING--Minnesota maintained its fifth-place position in both the American
Hockey Magazine/USA Today and U.S. College Hockey Online polls last week.
However, Princeton moved into a tie with the Gophers in the AHA/USA Today poll.
New Hampshire held onto the top spot in both polls.
