The American Hockey Coaches Association announced that Minnesota's Laura
Halldorson has been named women's coach of the year.

This is the first year that the AHCA has named a coach of the year for women's
hockey.

Halldorson, who guided the Golden Gophers to a 21-7-3 record, led her team to a
fourth-place finish at the national championships in the program's first season.

After seven seasons at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, Halldorson returned
to her native Minnesota in November, 1996, to begin preparations for the
inaugural season of Gopher Women's Hockey.

During her tenure at Colby, Halldorson posted a 59-75-9 record, including a
12-9-1 record in 1995-96 to earn Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association and New
England Hockey Writers coach of the year honors.

In her first month, Halldorson led her team to the title of the Princeton
Thanksgiving Invitational and, one month after player its first game, Minnesota
earned its first national ranking at number five.

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Halldorson served as an
assistant coach of the U.S. Junior National Team in 1995 and has participated in
USA Hockey's girls and women's national development camps since their inception
in 1991. Additionally, she was a member of the Women's Olympic Evaluation
Committee in August, 1997, helping to choose team which won the gold medal at
the 1998 Winter Olympics.

A 1985 graduate of Princeton, Halldorson currently sports a career record of
80-82-12 in eight seasons.

Does anyone know of any hockey camps for Women, near Ontario? And does
anyone know of any summer leagues in Ontario for Women?
Thanks.
For all of you that missed Brampton, it was great. 360 teams, from all
over North America, and from England. I heard Cassie Campbell,
Geraldine Heaney, and Vicki Sunohara were there signing Autographs. And
I met Karen Nystrom and got here autograph.
