AUGH. Don't buy in New York. Selection is only fair, best stores are NOT in
Manhattan and the prices are nothing like you'll find in Vancouver. I only
bought a couple of pieces here -- you should have seen the Blades go
equipment crazy when we went to the Brampton tournament last spring near
Toronto. Gotta love that Canadian dollar.

I am planning to buy a pair of ladies Louisville pants this year and
have been told that there are some good suppliers in the Vancouver area.
However, I am also going to New York City in December, so should I buy
them there? Can anyone recommend a good hockey supply shop in Vancouver
and/or New York? Will the prices be similar in NYC and Van? I would
prefer to support the local (Van) economy! Thanks!

I don;t know anything about Vancouver, but I've been to a few places in NYC.

Not sure about any "discount" places in NYC, but I cna tell you places that
are knowledgeable and helpful.

Two of my personal favorites, are Blades @ Chelsea Piers and Cosby's right
near Madison Square Garden. I went to both these places when I was first
starting to play hockey all of 6 months ago. Told them I know nothing about
any of this stuff. They took their time, explained how the gear should fit,
what it does, etc. I bought most of my gear between thsoe two stores.

Other stores that I like are Syosset Sports Shop (in Syosset on Long Island).
And Cosby's has another location in Westbury, Long Island.

And they treated me like a "regular hockey-playing customer." No stupid
comments about women playing hockey, nor did they call me honey or sweetie,
or any of those other horror stoires we have heard about on this mail list.

Bad news for women's hockey fans looking forward to watching the Olympic
gold-medal game on television.

According to this Associated Press report, CBS is not planning to broadcast
the game -- only "highlights."

This looks like the same raw deal women's soccer got in Atlanta last year.
(In case you don't remember, while the U.S. was winning the first-ever
Olympic gold medal in women's soccer, in front of a sold-out crowd of
nearly 70,000 people, NBC was showing rhythmic gymnastics.)
