I had the same problem when I was playing three or four times a week in
grad school -- my chin had broken out into such a mess (and I normally
have clear skin -- especially at THAT age!)

I went to a health food store with a friend and on a whim decided to ask
if the sales guy recommended any soap products to clear my chin up. He
suggested the Kiss My Face brand and I've used it ever since. I use the
olive oil and aloe formula -- just be sure to air dry the bar after each
use or it breaks down.

Good luck to your daughter's face! :)

re: goalie mask "face"

There's two problems here--oil and sweat. I'd suggest using a sweatband to
try and keep the sweat from coming down the forehead and pooling. The salt
in the sweat can get *really* irritating, and that's what opens up skin for
the chapping and zits. A sweatband took care of the cyclopsian zit I used
to get right between my eyebrows.

The chin uglies were a different problem, since I had chapped skin at the
same time--the usual acne remedies just made the redness and peeling worse.
What I ended up using was a glycerin soap (Pears or Neutrogena) right after
the game, and swabbing the area down with peroxide or PhisoDerm (PhisoHex
had been pulled off the market) afterwards. Cleaning up ASAP seemed to have
a lot to do with how quickly the skin cleared up.

If her skin isn't too oily, I'd suggest using something like Clinique's
"Lotion for very troubled skin", after washing (if the glycerin soaps are
drying too much, try a lotion wash like Cetaphil). The lotion contains
hydorcortizone, and that will settle down chapping and redness. If you can
break the irritation cycle, you can deal with the acne separately.

Any suggested sources for the Upper Deck cards? The only store in my
area (Ottawa) I have located so far that is willing to order them in wants
a bulk order and I don't want 50 sets.

Email me privately at email@hidden

Thanks,

Jil,
My daughter had the same problem from her chin rest on her helmet and where her helmet
touched her forehead. Part of the problem is that bacteria grows on the padding after being hot
and sweaty and then being stored where they don't air out and then causes the skin to break out.
Ana started using the baby wipes to disinfect the inside of her helmet after practices and games
and it makes a big difference. See if it will help your daughter.
