Lets get some information on female hockey tournaments on this list. The
pickings are few and far between as it is. Sometimes we in female hockey are
our worst enemies, by not advertising our upcoming events far enough in
advance. If anyone has any upcoming tournaments, could you mail me. We
want to go some- where - anywhere. Build it and they will come!!!!!!

Also, could we get some addresses to your various associations, so we can
mail out info on our tournament.

Thank-you

Marc

Julia: With 2000 old letters to clean up, I ran across this. Our Assn.
Sec. should have passed to you the particulars. I am writing because I
was wondering if the guide was finished and another issue has come up
that I am hoping you might be able to help us with.

USA Hockey changed the By-law that formerly required election of the
National Girls/Women Section Director by open vote of all Girls/Women
teams. The new wording says that each District will now elect, by
democratic process, Section Representatives that will in turn elect the
Director.

I would think that any reasonable person would not conclude that the
intent was to remove any voting by teams in selecting representatives.
Unfortunately, that is exactly the interpretation we have in the Pacific
District. They feel that if Affiliate Presidents and District Directors
make the nominations and do all of the voting it will be fine. This is
essentially what they have always done in the past. As you know we have
always objected to this process. We hope it has not been legitimized.

I am hoping you could find out if the interpretation in Mass. and New
England Districts (or any others) is the same.

This change was started a couple of years ago and was tabled by the
National Body. It eventually came to pass last winter. It was supposed
to be a By-law change that everyone in Girls/Women supposedly wanted. I
somehow doubt that if the intent was to remove the right of Girls/Women
teams to vote on their representation at any level, it would be broadly
supported by Girls/Women.

With all the problems we have with representation in AK, it is
particularly bad news. We are hoping the our District's interpretation
is an exception and that other Districts will be above board and
continue allowing teams to vote.

Any info you could share would be most appreciated.

As an update, final resolution of our lawsuit continues to languish.
Though we received a fair allocation for this season, the second part of
the Judges order has not been fulfilled. In that part, he ordered that
a policy for future allocations by provided by the city. That policy
must remedy past discrimination and provide equitable future allocations
for both existing programs and teams, as well as provide for new
growth. The city did propose a policy, but it did not meet the courts
requirements. They now have until January to write a new one.

Thanks,

Lyle Anderson
