Regarding the Laura Stamm Power Skating clinics, I went this past winter
to her clinic in Chicago (at Center Ice) and found it to be VERY
helpful. Even though I've only been skating a year and a half, they put
me in the intermediate class, because the beginner class is usually all
little kids. Well, I was by FAR the oldest in my group (37 years old)
and only one of 2 females, but I would do it again (in fact I probably
will, next year). It also was a tremendous workout, I discovered my
quads need major strengthening (wall squats, here I come!). And what is
really neat, she taught the class herself!!

Peterborough is my hometown. What do you mean that there is nothing to
do in Peterborough during the winter .... you can always play hockey!! :-)

The city keeps the snow cleared on the canal that runs through the city
(part of the Trent Canal system near the Peterborough Liftlocks), so
you can find outdoor hockey and recreational skating all winter long.
It's quite the hockey town!

Peterborough definitely has an organised girls' high school hockey league.
I played for Thomas A Stewart in the high school league. The other schools
in our league at that time were Adam Scott, Crestwood, Kenner, and PCVS.

In a message dated 97-05-22 07:51:21 EDT, you write:

<< And a lot of the old boys in the hockey writers don't help - Stan Fischler
conducted this senseless vendetta against Manon Rheaume for something like
three years in The Hockey News. He also wrote this dreadful article a few
years ago in Hockey Digest, wherein he claimed to have polled three female
hockey writers in Los Angeles about their picks for the cutest player, best
buns, best eyes, best lips, etc. When Nancy Marrapese, the Bruins beat
writer for the Globe, wrote a letter telling Fischler that he wasn't helping
the cause of women fans, Fischler wrote this cutesy little "there, there,
calm down, it's all in good fun, and besides, most women go to the games to
look at the cute players, dear" reply.
  >>

Actually, we go to Hockey games because it is a great game to wacth. If we
wanted to look at the "cute players" we would go to soccer games instead.

Andria,
After I sent the post, I realized how funny it must have sounded on a
hockey list. I guess it was all those sun filled summers that made me
forget (momentarily) the most important thing in the world. How can diving
for lost propellers begin to compare with waiting in the emergency room
hoping the plastic surgeon shows up before an eager resident? Please
forgive me.

Hello all! First I would like to say as a rather new member of the list I
have tremendously enjoyed the on-going debates and quick supplies of
information.

So here is my question:

Does anyone know if the Women's Olympic teams will be touring at all through
North America before the Games (Sort of like what the men's teams did before
the World Cup) ??

Thanx,

Krystal #14

I'm reasonably certain I can dig up a WWC USA media guide. I think I got a
box load of them when I was there!

Does anyone know of a women's senior hockey league in or near Alymer or
Luskeville, Quebec?

My friend is moving to that area and is looking for a competitive team to
play on. Please email me directly if anyone knows of a team..
