My daughter, Jessica, played for Team Cal peewwee's last season and was
at the tryout for this years peewwee team last weekend (she was wearing
a white Team Cal jersey, no. 21 during the scrimmage on Sunday and
played defense most of the time). You mentioned that you drive up from
San Diego. We live in Las Vegas and have a 4 plus hour drive each way.
Currently there is only one full time ice rink operating here so ice
time in the local leagues is limited. A new twin sheet rink has just
begun construction and they hope to open by Nov. Besides Jess, I have
two boys, Zac-17 and Mike-7 playing as well. All three play roller
hockey simultaneously as ice to make up for the lack of ice time. All 3
play on roller travel teams as well as ice travel teams. Jessica's first
priority is ice and the Team Cal program is a wonderful opportunity for
her. You are correct that the nationals will be at Disney Ice in Anahiem
this April. I wish there was some way to raise funds to support these
girls. I tried here in Vegas and used the future educational
opportunities tack but got nothing.

Mike,
I remember your daughter at the tryouts. Bree had her white Team Cal jersey,
NO 1 from last year. You could tell the girl's from the squirt team they
had the color added on their jerseys. She was in goal opposite Lady 'T'.
Bree will be 12 in Nov., we heard about the tryouts from a friend and she
wanted to go.
We were really impressed with the way the tryouts were done. The locker
room on Sunday before the scrimmage was soooo quite, you could hear a pin
drop! The seriousness of the girls was amazing. All the girls looked great
on both days.
Bree's plays for the Jr ducks co-ed. Playing on two teams is tough for
them, having to pick which has priority. Luckly Bree is our only one. I see
how hard it is having kids that play different div/teams.
Thank you,

Judi Stevens

The best way to find out the results of the men's In-line

Even though this isn't women's hockey, I'll post the round robin

Please use appropriate subject headings when posting to this list. This
helps greatly in weeding through the messages and picking the "signal
versus noise" (as defined by each individual, of course).

If you are starting a new thread please change the subject heading to
something appropriate. To give a good example, I am not a goalie so I
have been deleting all messages with that header (I am sure it is good
reading but I have to cut the number of messages somehow). As it turns
out, it seems as though many of those messages are not related to "Goalie
Question".

thank you for considering this plea.

Hey Kari! We talked not too long ago as a member of Team Alaska in the
Arctic Winter Games (for all who've never heard, it's a bi-annual
"olympics " of the northern parts of Canada and US (Alaksa). I was the
coach/player of Team Alaska back in '90, where I travelled to Anchorage to
hold try-outs, as well as held them in my home town of Fairbanks. I
didn't know all who tried out in Anchorage, so I had to depend on what I
saw, and what others said about players. The most important thing (even
before skills) is Team Chemistry! Get players that are Team players and
not hot-shots bent on winning the games on their own. For you to know
this, it is important to talk with others, as a try-out won't show true
colors. Then, it's important for you to communicate with your team, let
them know as soon as you've reached a decision, then write letters or call
them to keep them abreast of any changes to the schedule, etc. When you
finally get everyone together in Yellowknife, go out for some pizza or
drinks, and just let everyone get to know each other. Try to put your
lines together with like ages initially, and make sure everyone is
involved in the discussions. Obviously, once you hit the ice for your
first practice, so teamwork stuff as soon as everyone is stretched out.
Individual skills will already be there (and you already know what they
are anyways), but your team needs to work together as lines, partners,
etc. 'Hope this helps! Good Luck!
