Hey were you at the table where they were selling souveniers after the
game. I remember talking to someone from your team. I didn't play two
years ago, because I played in Ohio. In the 96 97 year we went to both
tournaments. I know if we do next year we might not be that good
because me and two other players will be the only ones with much
experience. If you played a Lincoln Park/Michigan Capitals team in the
Friendship it would have been the A team because we played Illinois,
Midland, and Detroit.

I know that this is a women-in-hockey mailing list, but I have a favor
to ask. I live in central Illinois, and am a big fan of the Detroit
Redwings. However, I'm smack in the middle of Blues and Blackhawks heaven,
and those are the only two teams the media reports on. Could you all please
inform me of anything new that happens with Vladimir and Slava? Any
information is much appreciated. :)

I heard the suggestion that they make golf a blood sport. Might make it
more popular. Who wants to teach Tiger Woods how to hit from behind with a
5 iron?

Red Wings' Konstantinov shows signs of improvement

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov, in a coma
since suffering a severe head injury in a limousine accident on
Friday night, remained in critical condition but appeared to
respond to the voices of his family and teammates Sunday. Doctors
at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., said
Konstantinov displayed slight movement and signs of facial
expression, and, while there was still reason for concern, the
30-year-old Russian's slight improvement was cause for optimism.
Teammates have been playing Konstantinov the Queen song "We Are
The Champions," a song he had been listening to repeatedly in the
days since Detroit clinched the Stanley Cup June 7. Doctors said
there is still no way of knowing whether Konstantinov, a finalist
for the Norris Trophy, will be able to continue his hockey
career. Konstantinov and team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov, 43, who
was also in a coma and listed in critical condition Sunday
following surgery for a severe head injury suffered in the
accident, were both breathing with the help of ventilators
Sunday. Wings defenseman Slava Fetisov, the team's elder
statesman at 39, remained in good condition after suffering a
bruised lung and chest lacerations in the accident and could be
      released as early as Monday.

In other developments, the limousine company involved said
through a lawyer that it had not been able to confirm whether
reports that the driver, 28-year-old Richard Gnida, was operating
the vehicle with a revoked license. Numerous published reports
have claimed that Gnida was driving with a revoked license due to
his bad driving history and that he would not have been eligible
to receive a review for his license until January of next year.
Also, the Detroit News reported that Birmingham, Mich., Police
found no evidence of a stalled car at the crash site. Gnida
reportedly told his employers that the accident occurred when he
swerved to avoid a stalled car. Gnida was listed in good
condition Sunday and could be released from the hospital Monday.

Maren,
I agree with you on the Louisville TPS lite, that is all my daughter has
used for 2 seasons. She is 11/f and a light stick makes it easier to clear
the puck with.

Subject: Stretching
Message-ID:

Hi,
I just read a post that asked about stretching exercises but I deleted it by
accident...
It's a highly overlooked topic of discussion and I for one, could really use
some advise.

It seems like lately I have sore legs and shoulders all the time and have had
2 horrible lower back spasms (within the last 8 months) that both put me down
for a week. The first time was brought on while putting my 87 lb. German
Shepherd out in the yard and the 2nd time I was getting up out of a chair...
and boing; my back went out. (Incidentally, I've never been hurt playing
hockey; Knock on wood.)
I play 3 times a week but have a sit down job and find myself getting VERY
stiff when I sit for too long. The WORST time I have is driving. If I have
to drive say 45 minutes, 44 of those minutes are agony. Most of the pain is
in my right leg behind the knee. Something about the position of my foot on
the gas pedal, I think. I move the seat and backrest around constantly to
try and find what's comfortable, but no luck. I try and stretch out
regularly but think I'm not doing a good enough routine or am not doing the
right kind of stretching/exercises.

Also, I have been seeing a chiropractor with results but feel that I will
become dependant on going to him if I continue (<----thats what they want!)
and there must be a better way to stretch/strengthen the problem areas rather
than be dependant on a chiropractor for the rest of my life.

Subject: Team Building
Message-ID:

I am in an interesting situation for the upcoming hockey season and am looking
for some suggestions. I have just been named head coach of the Northwest
Territories Womens Team. It is an all-star team that will play in two
tournaments next season. They are the Arctic Winter Games and the Western
Shield. For the first time, this will be a mainly junior team (under 20). The
team will be chosen at a tryout camp in Jan '98.

Here is my challenge: The players, who will probably range in age from 13 to
adult (4 overage players will be allowed) will be coming from various
communities accross the North. They will come from very different cultures and
backgrounds. Some will have been playing in pee-wee, bantam, and midget boys
leagues all year and some with local women's teams. Some may have never played
in a real game with referees before. I know from past playing experience on
this team that there will be lots of talent. Skills are the easiest part to
deal with. How do I turn this diverse bunch of individuals into a "team"? To
add to the challenge, we will not be able to practice together before the
tournaments, due to the large geographical area we come from. Any ideas?
