The camp, known as the Female Hockey Academy of Excellence is from August
18th to 22nd in Richmond B.C. (suburb of Vancouver). It costs $267.50 CDN
including tax, and the contact can be reached at 1-888-441-4486 (this is a
free call, but I don't know if is set up for the U.S.A.), the fax number is
1-403-279-2049.

I have been advised that Judy Diduck will no longer be in attendance at the
camp.

According to the brochure, there are three catagories:

1) 12 and under
2) 13-17
3) elite high performance 15 and up

Marlene,

I agree with your assessment of the Academy of Excellence (Shannon Miller's
Camp). It is by far the best camp in British Columbia and I highly
recommend it also.

My sister went to the Shannon Miller Camp when it was in Osoyoos two years
ago. Back then, she was just starting out in hockey, and playing both
hockey and ringette, and wasn't sure which sport she would commit to. She
went to the camp, and just had so much fun. Having the National Team
Members there as positive role models really helps with the kids and gives
them someone to look up to and aspire to be.

After she came back from the camp, she was definitely hooked on hockey, and
despite making the Tween A Ringette team that season, she quit Ringette at
the beginning of the season to develop her hockey skills and played on both
a boys and girls hockey team that year. She has attended that camp ever
since, and she's looking forward to going back this year, as they'll be
offering an elite camp this year. Should be good, I've heard that Shannon
Miller is one of the best "practice" coaches in Canada.

The dates for the camp are August 18-22, 1997 at the Richmond Ice Centre in
Richmond, B.C. I don't know if they have any more spaces as it is a very
popular camp, but you can always check. Their toll-free number is
1-888-441-4486 (I've been told that the number is not accessible from the
States though). You can also get info on this camp, and other recommend
hockey camps in B.C., by checking out my web page at
http://www.rgih.bc.ca/hocschool.htm

Speaking of good hockey camps, there's another really good camp that has
been mentioned on this list before called Rinksport. The original
Rinksport Camp that was slated in July for Vancouver B.C. was cancelled
because it conflicted with the Superseries tournament.

However, Richmond Girls Ice Hockey is making plans to host a Rinksport
Clinic on the last weekend of August. We'll be providing approximately
10.5 hours of ice over the 3 days, at a cost of around $75-$100 CDN (a good
deal, just for the ice!). Should be a good clinic, and good tune-up camp
for tryouts. If you want more information, please drop me a line.

Alan.

Does anyone know exactly when and where the 1998 US nationals are? I hear
they're in California (Anaheim?) but I don't know for sure or when. Many
thanks.

Alan,

Do you have any information on a billeting program for this camp. My 13
year old daughter plays goal in both hockey and ringette. Last year she
played at the AA level. Unforunately our city did not have a AA team so
she ended up playing for a team 500 miles away. She would love to attend
this hockey camp and I would appreciate any information you have on
billeting as she would be flying from Sault Ste. Marie, ON to attend and
given the cost of air fare, she would be attending on her own.

Thanks
