Hi all. Re the message I sent earlier about the Sports Illustrated-Women
webpage, the multiple forwarding made it look as though the author was a
woman who works at James Madison University. It wasn't; she was just one of
the forwarders. The authors of the webpage are noted on the first part of the
page.

Sorry for the confusion.

Rhonda,

I'm the one who had the poster scanned, and the GIF is on my machine
as well as plaidworks, both accessible through the web.

I received my copy of the poster from email@hidden (Dorene Peifer?),
and I received a different copy from Mike Johannson, who is the Pacific
District Director (?) of Women's Programs.

Originally, the poster came out of Minnesota, and all the girls in the
poster are (or were) part of their girls' ice hockey program. MGWHA,
the Minnesota Girls' and Women's Hockey Assoication.

So if the question is where do I get more hard-copy posters, the answer
is: perhaps from your district rep, probably from MGWHA.

So I also looked through old mail on the subject, and found the following
from Dorene:

> I have had a lot of requests for the poster...please contact USA
> Hockey, Doug Palazzri at 719-599-5500 if you would like one.

But that information is over a year old.

Hope this helps.

The age groupings are
Mite 8 and under
Squirt 9-10
PeeWee 11 &12
Bantam 13-14
Midget 15-16
Juniors 17+
The age groupings will change in 1998 and will add a third year (of play) to
each age group - i.e. Squirts will be 9-11.

I have two things to post:

1) I am interested in hearing about any girls ice hockey tournaments located
in a 300 mile radius from Detroit, any age level but primarily 12 & under and
senior, any skill level. This includes Canada age level 13 & under. (I wish
USA Hockey used Canadian Hockey age levels. Just thinking out loud.) Also
any teams that would be interested in playing some games, primarily 12 &
under just for fun please contact me at email@hidden.

2) For any girls or women, in the Detroit Metro Area, who would like to get
some ice time over the summer, Team Michigan will be hosting summer skates at
Great Lakes Sports City formerly known as Fraser Ice Arenas times and days
are TBD but if you are interested either email me @ email@hidden or just
keep us in mind and we will update this post when we get further information.
We will be hosting a novice program(Learn to (Play Hockey) Skate) for all
ages also this summer so if you know of anybody who might want to see what
the fun is all about tell them to contact us.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks everyone for replying but I am not really interested in a camp. This
program that I attended two years ago was in Milford CT with college and
prep school level girls. It had two tryouts and they split the girls up on
teams and we played games against each other throughout the summer. It was
great practice. I dont know what happemd to that camp. Thanks again! Jen

I don't believe they are adding a third year. The proposed changes I
have heard is to change the year from July 1- June 30 to a calender
year to align with Canadian ages, and to consider making ONE year
categories instead of the two year spans.

Whatever it is, I just wish they'd get on with it! Hockey USA has
been discussing changes for at least three years!

Hello all!

Just a quick reminder to all US list members.

Carolyn - email@hidden - has a petition going to try and get a
US TV network (ESPN2) to pick up coverage of the Women's World Hockey
Championships from Kitchener. If you haven't "signed" this petition already,
and are interested in doing so, please E mail Carolyn, at the above E mail
address, with your name, age, location, and E mail address.

We need to get this moving pretty quick with the championships starting
March 31st. Pass this info on to anyone you know that may be interested in
"signing". Even if they don't have an E mail account just send Carolyn their
name, age, and location through your E mail. I believe the last count was
somewhere near 300 names. Carolyn??? We need to get many more names to even
have a chance.

Thanks a bunch!!

If you are referring to USA Hockey, please don't jump to hasty
conclusions! At this point in time a proposal has not yet been
formulated, but when it (or they) are they will be presented and voted on
at the June "97 meeting. If anything passes, it would take effect with
the 98/99 at the earliest.

Paul Vincint's Camp is now offering 2 or 3 weeks of all women camps. It
has the reputation of being one of the best camps in the area (it's in
Mass) - good, hard work!

 Hi,
Congradulations on finally getting a team! Cincinnati isn't too far away,
maybe we could play you some time. We're a womens' midget travel team from
Houghton, MI, in the Upper Peninsula, called the Keweenaw Wings. Let me
know if you're interested!
