female hockey in North Central British Columbia, Canada. We currently
have 12 senior women's teams in the north and are growing every year.
The national's are in BC this year, but still 500 miles from us. We'd
love to see a few games on tv.

My name is Bree, and I am 11 years old. I play goalie on the Anaheim Jr.
Ducks and Team Cal South girls team. This is what hockey has taught me!!

It teaches how to have heart and there is no "I" in team!! Don't give
your hopes up. Teaches you how to play with other kids that are not the
same as you. Also that when you have a mean coach, you do not have to
play for them.

Scott,

You never mentioned anything about hockey teaching "winning" in your
reply above to Claude. You did give a great serman on giving it your
all and working hard at whatever you endeavour to do in life. But
hockey doesn't just teach winning. It teaches life skills. Work
ethic, respect, determination, sacrifice, etc. These are the skills
and qualities that we would want our children to learn from sport.
Winning is a result of many of those qualities and skills put
together. But it is not what sport is all about. Winning is just
the bonus.

I think that is what you were trying to say anyway.

Here is another name to add to your list, 2 years ago I was watching the
IIHF tournament in San Jose, but had to miss the final between Canada
and the USA, because I was on a trip to Canada, To watch the Sharks. We
got coverage of the World Curling Championships, BUT got about8 seconds
of the tournament! This really sucks. It is a BAD reflection on US TV.
What if CBC would have covered the event?
BTW, if they ever hold the event in San Jose again, I will FILL the
stands with fans, I am very high on women's hockey, especially the
National teams

Hi, everyone!

We're putting together a special issue of Go, girl! devoted to raising
awareness about women's hockey. I've already received a lot of help and
priceless info from list members. Thank you so much.

And now, another request for help ... What I'd like to do is compile a
sort of directory of teams, not so much a "phone book" type thing, but
more a story that shares highlights of the season. If you would like to
email me a short description (1-2) paragraphs about your team, I will try
to include it in the story. I'm envisioning it as a sort of "round-up"
article where readers can see a short, "rah-rah" blurb about your team,
along with a team logo, if possible. We'll also provide an email or web
link if you'd like. One guideline to keep in mind, our readers are more
interested in people and the triumphs/tribulations of sports than they
are in scores and plays. Certainly, feel free to include your stats, but
ground them in some personal meaning.

If you're interested in being part of this, or if you have other info you
want to share, please mail me privately at email@hidden

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi! I'm the director of the Arctic Stars, Senior "B"
Women's Hockey Team, and we are in our 3rd year. Last
year, we played in the men's league, finishing 4th out of
8. This year, we're in 1st place, out of 10 teams. It's
the 1st time a women's team will have won the men's
league. Obviously, the guys aren't very happy with us,
but overall, it's not bad playing with them. I hope this
is what you wanted; if not, let me know!!
