Hi,

Kelly Dyer (Team USA '90, 92) is now the product manager for Louiville's
new line of women's hockey gear, and she came to Cornell last Wedensday to
show us the new gear. She showed us pants, shoulder and elbow pads, gloves
and sticks that were designed especially for women as well as some "unisex"
shin gaurds. The gear was all top quality and earned high marks from my
whole team.

Louiville does not make any women's goalie gear. However, Kelly emphasized
that it is fairly easy to have goaile equipment coustom made. For instance
she had her glove and blocker made so that they are as big as the NHL style
but the finger and wrist holes are narrower.

I called Great Skate on Friday, and they said the CCM 852s were due out in
May/June. And, that they would NOT be carrying them (although the woman I spoke
to didn't know why...)

I just read in Women's Hockey Magazine that Brown is going to start
manufacturing women's goalie equipment - pants in proportion, blockers
and gloves to fit smaller hands.

     Jan.

I was just speaking to the local pro shop manager about these; he told me
that they were lower in the back (I guess some women have a problem with
them digging into the back of their calves) and were narrower, especially
at the toe.

Subject: U.S. team takes first in Canadian League
Message-ID:

Seattle, WA -- For the first time in girls' and/or women's hockey history,
in the Canadian Lower Mainland Female Hockey League in B.C., a U.S. team
takes first place in league play.

The NW Admirals, a new Midget "Rep" team from Seattle Jr. Hockey
Association, enters league playoffs with a record of 17 wins and 2 ties.
The team had 159 goals "for," 24 goals "against", and outscored their
opponents by an average of 8 goals. Leading the NW Admirals in scoring
are Junior #25 Brooke Whitney (Jr. National Player) with 35 goals and 28
assists, and Senior #5 Lauren Trottier, with 30 goals and 16 assists. Also
adding heavily to the score board are Juniors #10 Monell Schroeder, #19
Christine Walby, and Sophomore #18 Jennifer Walby.

Head Coach Cindy Dayley is looking forward to playoffs, but first and
foremost in her mind is the U.S. Regionals held in California, March 21st
through the 23rd. "If we win the Canadian league playoffs we won't
continue on to their Provincials because we are a U.S. team. Right now we
are using every game to prepare for our Regionals," said Coach Dayley.

The NW Admirals is a first-year travel "Rep" team from a developing girls'
program in Seattle Jr. Hockey Association. It is the only girls' program
in Western Washington and developed the first travel "Rep" team in
Washington state. Along with the Midget "Rep" team the association
currently has one Squirt "House" team, which plays against boys' "House"
teams, and one Midget "House" team which plays in the LMFHL as well. Next
year the association is planning on growing by adding another girl's team.
"Our program is about the development of girls' hockey, for recreation or
for a stepping stone to collegiate play," said Coach Dayley.
