INTERESTED IN SHARING WITH ANOTHER WOMEN/GIRL'S TEAM. Teams must have on-ice

The Brooklyn Blades women's ice hockey team of New York City is looking for
players ages 14 and up to fill out our A and B travel teams and to join our
beginners' clinic.
Beginners' Clinic:
The beginners' clinic costs $275 and meets Thursdays, 8:30 to 10:30 pm from
November to March in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
A and B travel teams:
The travel team season runs from October through March. Starting
mid-November, practices take place in Prospect Park, Brooklyn on Thursdays
from 8:30 to 10:30 pm. October practices are in Bayonne, NJ on Saturdays from
9 to 11 pm. Home games are at Riverbank State Park in Manhattan. Away games
are in New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut and Westchester. The team fee is
$575 which includes the $25 USA Hockey insurance fee.
A-team players have several years competitive hockey experience and strong
skating skills, B-team player profiles range from first year in hockey and
ice skating to several years competitive experience. Evaluations and team
assignments will take place during pre-season practices.
The women's team players are from New Jersey, Long Island and all five
boroughs. If you don't have a car, don't despair, carpooling to practices and
games has always been our MO.
The Brooklyn Blades is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization
(incorporated in 1996). Last year with all games and practices combined, the
Blades each paid less than $8 per hour of ice, making the Blades the best ice
hockey deal in NYC!
To reserve a spot on the team or in the clinic, we need your $100 deposit.
Email the manager Martha Ehrenfeld at email@hidden or call the Blades line
(718) 595-2808 for more information.

Hi Becky:
>
I write the Women's Hockey Card column in Women's Hockey magazine. A word of
advice....SHOP AROUND before you pay $40 Cdn or $31 US for the 40-card 1994
Classic Women of Hockey set. That price is waaaay too high. Liam are you
listening! Shame on you! I bought the 40-card set off a Windsor, Nova
Scotia collector last October for $15 Cdn in mint condition!! Becky, just
email me at email@hidden and I will give you this Windsor collector's
email. Maybe he has an extra set to sell.
By the way, I'll print a list of some of the reputable card collectors I've
dealt with over the internet in the Fall Issue of Women's Hockey mag. I've
done about 6-8 transactions with collectors I've found over the internet and
no deals have gone bad. However, I caution all collectors like Becky, who
are new to the women's card market, to be wary of making deals through the
web or paying outrageous prices for these cards. It's best to deal with a
trader/seller who has been recommended by a friend and...before you buy...do
your homework...talk to sports card shop people and get up to speed on what
women's hockey cards, whether singles or sets, are commanding on the market.
As for the new Upper Deck set release...stay tuned. The U.S. women,
represented by USA Hockey, have not been able to ink a deal with UD, only
the Canadian women. Hmmm....will this new set come out at all? I'm following
this development with lots of interest.

I am teaming up with the director of the Westchester Jets hockey club to
form a girls travel team. Practices will probably be held in Stamford, CT
and maybe surrounding areas. At this time, it looks as though we will
start with the 15 and under age group. If you or your daughter (sister,
neice, etc) are interested, please e-mail me at one of the addresses below.
Good to be back online again! Be sure to check out Wayne's Hockey World
online magazine (www.hockeylife.com) and read my monthly column.

Kelly:
If this collector in Nova Scotia still has sets for $15 CDN including
shipping, then I'm interested in buying too! Please post the address. Since
these cards are a "one per pack" insert for a relatively low volume set, and
are the only cards ever made for 36 of the players, the demand far exceeds
the supply. Specifically, according to Classic, there was a production of
6,000 U.S. and 2,000 CDN cases, each of which had 10 boxes per case, and if
we assume there were 36 packs per box, and with one Women in Hockey card
inserted per pack, that means there are only 54,000 possible sets in
existance in the U.S., and only 18,000 possible sets in existance in Canada.
Given the difficulty in compiling a set, I would suggest that there are only
10,000 or so complete sets in existance. In contrast, Upper Deck prints in
the neighbourhood of one to two million of each of their hockey cards, so
the Classic cards will be much more rare and scarce, and should continue to
command a premium long after the mass produced cards from Upper Deck are
available. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that Upper Deck will be
featuring female hockey players for the first time, but lower production
runs are one of the largest determiners of value in hockey cards. For
example, Eric Lindros' Score Rookie Card is worth $15, but his 7th Inning
Sketch Memorial Cup card is worth $40!
In addition to female hockey, I have been very involved in sportscards for 8
years, and based on my experience, after the 1998 Olypics, you will not be
able to buy a set of these cards for less than $50. Currently, only Manon
Rheaume, is very expensive, but watch the other cards to take off too!
Here are some current price guide prices in U.S. $ from the most reputable
annual price guide company for Manon Rheuame cards:
1992/93 Classic Draft Picks #59 $6.00 U.S. (considered her RC)
1992/93 Classic Prsidential #1 $10.00 U.S.
1992/93 Classic Promo #NNO $10.00 U.S.
1993/94 Clasic Draft #MR1 $25.00 U.S.
1993/94 Classic Draft #AU11 $125.00 U.S. (Autographed)
1993/94 Classic Draft Crash #N8 $35.00 U.S.
1993/94 Classic Pro Prospects Prototypes #PR2 $6.00 U.S.
1993/94 Classic Pro Prospects #AU2 $75.00 U.S. (Autographed)
1993/94 Classic Pro Prospects BC's #BC10 $10.00 U.S.
1993/94 Classic Pro Prospects LP's #LP1 $20.00 U.S.
1994/95 Classic Draft Previews #HK4 $15.00 U.S.
1994/95 Classic Draft #AU3 $100.00 U.S. (Autographed)
1994/95 Classic Draft Autographs #NNO $100.00 U.S. (Autographed)
1994/95 Classic Picks #CP15 $15.00 U.S.
1994/95 Classic Pro Prospects #AU7 $125.00 U.S. (Autographed)
1995/96 Classic Autographs #NNO $60.00 U.S. (Autographed)

I agree! And if you find any deals, let the newsgroup know about it!
Also, doing deals on the internet is actually fairly safe! I have dealt with
138 different people (mostly NHL cards), and I have only been ripped off 2
times. FYI, the two people that ripped me off are:
Walter Zakrevsky email@hidden (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
Lee Rosen email@hidden and email@hidden (Coral Springs, Florida)
Also, for the vast majority of collectors including myself, you can trade
cards that you have, for cards that you want, using the price guide as a
method of determining a fair value of exchange.

As of a few days ago, the Canadian Team members still did not know if they
were going to be in the Upper Deck Collector's Choice set. However, Upper
Deck has distributed the checklist for the new set, and indicated who all
the NHL players in the set will be except for the first 48 cards which they
have only identified as "National Heros".
I suspect that this is delaying the shipment of the cards.

about these hky cards.....try to be smart buyers. as there is only a
limited amount of people at present that are interested in these cards i
have found they are rather easy to get really cheap. i had about 4
complete sets that i was able to give to friends as i was able to buy an
entire boof these cards for 5 bucks cdn. a great deal of sport card shops
were not interested in these cards as they were slow movers. i got mine
because the guy that had them had no real use for them and was glad to get
them off his hands. supply and demand will naturally push the prices up,
but if you are lucky you may find a store that...shamefully...cares little
about womens hockey...take advantage of this ignorant perspective and
score yourself a deal....i did!
