I know that this was a topic that was discussed a while back. At the
time I didn't say anything, because everyone else seemed to be doing a
good job presenting both sides of the question. But after reading about
the controversy in the World Championships, I thought I might bring up a
small point.

Some would say that women's hockey won't have much appeal until full
body checking is allowed. I happen to disagree with this.

Recently I watched a Kings alumni game against the Hollywood Stars. It
was definitely non checking, but I found it really enjoyable to watch.
Both my husband and I loved to watch the slick skating, passing and
stick handling of the old pros. OK - it wasn't very fast, and it was
all in good fun, but we both had a great time watching such an
impressive display of skill.

The women's game is like that. It stresses speed and skill. It can be
very enjoyable to watch, as well as play. It seems to be growing right
now in leaps and bounds, so why change a good thing?

Funny you should ask. I was just reading my Brown Alumni Monthly, and it has
a picture of Tara and her teammate Katie King, wearing the brown bear-paw
uniforms of Brown University. Go Bruno!

Tara was at Concord, NH High School, on the boy's varsity team, before her
freshman year(this year) at Brown.

Subject: women's hockey results?
Message-ID:

Hi,
Since my team is now in the off-season, there isn't much K-Wings's news
and scores to post anymore :) I've seen alot of scores and statistics
posted on this list, and have decided to put a national section on my
homepage. If you would like to e-mail me anything on the national teams, or
anything on your team(including end of the year wrap-ups), I would love to
add it to the new section I will be creating. I would also like to feature
a picture of a different team each week or so, so you can e-mail me those
too if you like. I was also thinking about a roller hockey section. In
general, send me anything that has to do with women's hockey and I'll see
if I can fit it on my page!

           Thanks,
                       Shannon Perkins-#1 K-Wings

Tara played for the Brown University Women's team and was ECAC
Rookie of the Year and All-ECAC first team this past year. Her Brown
teammate, Katie King was ECAC Player of the Year and an All-ECAC first team
selection.

Does anyone have the final results for the Brampton Tournament. I am
particularly interested in the Midget A, Bantam A and Peewee A divisions.

Thanks
Lynn

I called for my husband and they said it was ok. You might want to call and find out if that is a regional thing or not. The only real drawback was that it was for only a week in the middle of the summer, and I hadn't skated for a month and wouldn't after for another 2 months. We did a lot of skating technique drills (stopping, starting, the correct way to skate backwards, etc) and we scrimmaged a little. The focus is on technique, though. The instructors were excellent and very encouraging. I wished that it would have lasted for at least one more week. If you're looking for a camp that will allow you to work during the day and getting an excellent workout at night, RinkSport is good- and the cost is reasonable. Incidental contact, as it is allowed by the rules is fine. At the ECAC Final Four in Boston last month, Northeastern used a very physical style of play to upset both Brown and the University of New Hampshire en route to claiming the national title. These games were excellent from a spectator's perspective. The use of the body involved more finesse than the women's game. I do believe, however, that blue line icing should be changed to the red line. The women's game has evolved sufficiently to increase neutral zone play and decrease the chance for dump and chase. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Apr 1997 17:06:54 -0800 From: Craig Yeaton To: email@hidden Subject: Re: hockey camps Message-ID: email@hidden wrote: > > Has anyone attended a RinkSport Camp for Sr. Women? Stick With The Edge Hockey Camps are very similar to the Turcotte Stickhandling Camps, and they allow adults at their camps. I attended last year and had a blast.
