Here is a web site where you can list - and look for - upcoming
     tournaments:

     http://iquest.com/~paries/tourny/hockey.html

There should be a women's category now - if not, there will be soon.

I am just looking for information on college programs in the US or Canada
for my sister who is in her last year of high school. If you have any
contact numbers, names, or e-mail addresses it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Amy

Message-ID:

hi again gang -
Just updating the posting of local players info note.
Adult League pre-season will continue thru next week at The Gardens Ice
House, in Laurel,MD. Rink info is on http://www.thegardensicehouse.com/

Anyhow, the hockey program is starting up, and being run by Nelson
Hockey. The head coach is Nelson Burton, former NHL pro (Caps, Nordiques,
Stars), who is the coach of DeMatha High (MD state champs) and the
Chespeake Bay Lightning Womens Team. The pre-season activities started
this week, each evening having about 30 players.
The schedule for this past week & next week are: (23 Sep -3 Oct)
Monday 10pm Novice-Intermediate Clinic with Scrimmage $20
Tuesday 9:45pm Intermediate-Advanced Clinic with Scrimmage $20
Wednesday 10pm Novice-Intermediate Pick-Up $10
Thursday 10pm Intermediate-Advanced Pick-Up $10
All sessions are at least 90 minutes

The plan is to get the league started 2nd week of Oct, looking now as if
it will be either 2 Tiers or mixed level. Nelson will set the teams, for
those coming as individuals - if your bring an entire team then you get to
set it. The play appears to be solid intermediate (with a few novices &
some very advanced players).

League will include 1 practice, 1 game minimum per week. Trying to keep
the fee under $300 for the entire Oct-Apr season, including 1 team
"practice' jersey & refs. We are arranging equipment discounts with a
local hockey supplier & still working the $$$ details.

In addition to the league activities, there will be weekly clinics &
pick-up, which anyone can participate in.

Preliminary Schedule - Included in the league fee:
      1 practice/week (Tues-Thurs night times, 9:45 -12, depending)
      1 game/week (Sun. slots, after 7pm)
Teams of 15 max (may be less...)
   Additionally: Drop-ins for
      Pick-up every Friday night, 10pm, 30 player limit ~$10
Weekly clinic (prob. Mon/Wed night) - may be series price, or $20 per

Play is co-ed (a few brave women), non-check (HAHAHAHAHA) well, at least
non-cross check ;^) & *Full SLAPSHOT*. Full equipment, but face shields
not required -even if some of us think it's nuts not to have one :-)
Anyhow, all comers welcome, seeking more players & especially *GOALIES
NEEDED*.

The clinics & scrimmages have been great this week. A lot of former
MIDGET & college "players" picking back up, as well as the rest of us
adult players. Last night's pick-up did include the first blood on the
ice - the player did come back after bandaging, and putting a cage on!
Some of the addicts have been out every night (not just me) :-) And, for
those of you that have been to the Gardens, the ice is definitely getting
better. NHL rink is good ice - pretty fast, the Olympic rink is
reasonably smooth now - pretty much on a par with what's around & getting
better. The Mon. session went for over 2 hours - extra ice time.

If you're interested, come by, e-mail to me or you can call the Gardens
301-953-0100. We're putting together e-mail (& snail)distr. list .

Sorry the post took so long. Hoping for some more players & continued
good games :-)

Amy, there are many different colleges, which you can find on Andria Hunter's
page on the web (can somebody help with the exact address?)

We are Michigan State U, and we will be in a league (starting this year) with U
of Wisconsin, U of Illinois, Ohio State, Bowling Green, U of Michigan, and
maybe Michigan Tech...

Although we are all club teams, that doesn;t mean we don't take it seriously.
We just applied for Varisty status, and U of Minnesota just turned varsity. If
you want to contact my captains, call 517-336-4122 and ask for Rosann, Becky,
or Amy.
