Diane,
I understand there is a league that runs from VA up the coast. Someone from
that league should contact you....
And, this brings up something that I've been thinking about. I'd like to
get a list going of all the women's teams and leagues. Even something
simple like Team Name, League (if any), contact person, rink, city,state.
This would be a good faq or web page. If anyone would like to volunteer,
please do so now....
I'm setting up access from home, and am willing to do this if no one else
will, but don`t think I should do this from work.... However, I will start
the list if people will send me info and pass it on to whomever is
interested. It does seem as though there are a lot of questions as to
is there women`s hockey in this area, and how do I find other teams.
Here is a start..... I won't post phone numbers w/o that person's
permission..... And eventually this can be formatted nice, but for now
its just text.

hi,
I've been looking thru old mail messages, etc and have added to my list.
Please email me with team info and age if it isn't a senior team.
After this gets collected, I will try to get this up on the w-i-h web
page (please chuq? sheri?)
(off for the weekend, I'll add stuff in when I get it). I'll post this
occasionally so you can see how its coming along. If I get ambitious,
I'll even call USA Hockey to see what I can get from them. I haven't
added Canada because I think that is a big job in itself. I did list
a few UK teams.

I replied directly to Sue, but will now do so to the list
Since most of the womens' hockey teams in the US are in the New England
region at schools that have NO scholarships for any sports, you have to rely
on need based financial aid. This application is a normal part of applying
for admission. The hockey skills may set you apart from the pack and result
in admission in a very competitive pool.
I coach the girls team here at school. We are a prep school with 590
students, 504 of them board. we cost $22,000 per year and have 190 students
receiving $2.8 million in need based aid. My players have gone on to the
ECAC and ACAC Alliance schools to play. In many cases their hockey skills
made the difference in the admission process. For most, if not all, schools
the hardest thing is getting in.
Merit(Athletic) scholarships have existed at UNH, and Northeastern, and
maybe Providence college, but they are not plentiful. 4 women have them at
Northeastern, but who knows what will happen if the downgrade to club status
really comes to pass.
