Greetings:

I'm looking to speak to members and organizers of women's roller hockey
teams about the state of the sport. I'm also interested in knowing what
clubs/teams do exist out there. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance . . .

Check with Bill at SK8 Magazine in Alexandria, VA. He's trying to organize
an all-women's league here. I've been skating in his league w/ mostly guys
but am currently out due to knee surgery. Their number is (703) 519-8672.
You can also talk to Cathy there, she's probably in charge of the women's
league. Good luck! Jen H.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about girls' 12-and-under rules.
When we got to the rink, the referees had done some research as well. The
answer is fairly simple: Girls' 12-and-under is goverened by the same rules
as USA Pee Wees, except no checking. This rule caused a minor flurry as
squirt and mite girls went in search of their first mouth piece, and more
than a few complaints as they tried to skate with them for the first time.

Also, in California, Pee Wees and above are required to sign the score sheet.
So a few of the girls were also using their "signatures" for the first time.

A report on the game results will follow.

Hi all. I was just told that I may be moved to Winnipeg early in the New Year.
I hope it comes true because I would love to live in a city again. Anyway, are
there any teams there looking for players? OK to join in mid-season? Any
info would be great.

Sure, I'm interested in black uniforms. Our team's base color is black and so
is that of one of our major rivals. And a lot of non-affiliated players I
know buy black, at least in shorts, since it seems to be easy to match to a
variety of jersey colors. Which, I guess, means our psychological situation
is we're cheap.

Hey there!

Mind if I ask who this AP reporter is? As it happens, I'm a national news
editor (and occasional sports writer) at the AP and I'm always wary of people
who pass themselves off as one of us (you'd be amazed at how often it
happens). If it's someone from the NYC bureau, I'm wounded that they didn't
mention this story to me since I blab about my hockey connections to anyone
in the building who can be pinned down long enough to listen. ;)

Good luck with the publicity. God bless the World's Largest News-Gathering
Organization (and grant that it will send me to Japan in 1997).

Would you have the contact person for this since there has been girl's high
school, albeit in the independent school world, for over 25 years in New
England. There has been women's hockey for over 30 years at some of the Ivy
League colleges.

Derek,

My name is Rachelle Thibert and I play net for the Toronto Tigers
womens senior inline hockey team from Canada. There is a lot of interest
and enthusiasim for the sport in this area right now especially since the
NARCh tournament in Chicago last August. Our season will not be starting
until May or June since all our players play ice hockey as well. There
has been some talk recently that our league might throw a team together
for some tourneys before our season starts. If you'd like any more
information about any specifics, just ask.
