Lisa: I think it is cool that you point this out! Problem is (at least
for The Alaska Firebirds), USA Hockey does not recognize a "c" level!
What this has done to us, is result in our having teams we declard as
"B" teams, deemed "Recreational." That fact results in our getting less
ice than a competitive team (ice time in Anchorage is doled out by a
contractor for the City). We had to fight hard to get our teams
recognized as competitive teams, and still, the city will not recognize
more than two "Comp" teams!

It is important to note that USA Hockey does not tier any recreational
teams, only competitive teams. Competitive teams, by definition, are
eligible to compete for National Championships. Amongst Womens teams
(players on which may be any age), USA Hockey conducts National
Championships for Womens "A" and "B" teams. Any other classification
would be one defined by the host association and would not necessarily
be USA Hockey recognized.

In speaking with Karen Lundgren, Director, Girls/Women Section, USA
Hockey, it has been pointed out to me that ALL female teams are "Comp"
teams. If the host association is smart enough to accept that their
teams would not be competitive at Nationals and decides to declare them
"C" teams or whatever, that is their business.

I am saddened that common practice amongst associations that host Youth
Athlete (also known as primarily "Boys") teams, is not generally
accepted for those hosting female teams. In this respect the
Girls/Women Section has some growing to do. Perhaps in the future, we
will see designation of Tier I and II teams for Girls as well as Youth
Athlete!

Thx, Lyle

Hello all --

Not complaining, but if you are inviting game-scheduling, it might not hurt
to explain geographically where you are. Speaking for myself, I don't know
the location of many teams represented on this list, and I'd like a bit more
detail before I pass on invitations to my team's schedulers. You might also
say how far you're willing to travel on weeknights or weekends.

Nothing personal, Abby! I've actually been baffled a couple of times.

Cheers

West 145th and Riverside Drive, at the 145th Street stop on the 1/9 subway
line, underground and street parking available)
