I signed the paperwork today and things look settled, so I guess I can
finally announce this for real.

Laurie and I have put our house on the internet. I'm in process of bringing
up the connection and starting the tests now. Once the new domainname
propogates and I can get the needed software running, all of our
"non-apple" 'stuff' we're doing will have a new home, and will be migrated
over to a new, dedicated-to-this-stuff (and whatever else we feel like
doing) server.

This will give us a lot more flexibility, since we won't have to worry
about upsetting Mama Apple (who's been amazingly cooperative and patient
with me all this time), and let us try new and different things as we go
along.

The new machine SHOULD be named plaidworks.com, so we'll become
email@hidden and email@hidden, and we expect to have
pretty much the same services we do now (WWW, mail list, gopher, ftp). We
HOPE that, if we have extra capacity, we can make it available to others
looking for homes for things related to the stuff we already run (i.e.
hockey and baseball things). The link itself will be a dedicated 28.8K, 24
connection, so it'll likely be a bit slower for some of you, but most
aren't likely to see much difference.

It's going to take a few weeks to get all of the pieces nailed down and
ready to move the lists, but I wanted to announce this now (not just
because I'm thrilled to be ABLE to, but to give some minor advance
warning). I plan on moving lists one or two at a time, with enough advance
warning that people shouldn't be suprised if they pay attention (which, I
know, some of you won't. but those arne't reading this message, either).
We'll also take along the archives and web stuff and the like.

As things progress, I'll keep you informed. Right now, things will be
somewhat limited util the domainname is finalized and propogated to the
net, which will take a couple of weeks. That, and the fact that I'm kicking
at work on the way to a product intro... (yawn. Sleep? sleep? what's
that?).

This has been something I've wanted to do for a long, long time, and I'm
jazzed that time, money and technology have all come together to finally
let me. I expect that once things are done, we'll all have a really good
time over there. And anyway, how many people can say their house is wired
for the Internet?
