Gals? Ladies? Sorry, I wouldn't know anything about that.

But the Ohio State University Women's Ice Hockey Club is hosting
University of Minnesota Women's Hockey this weekend for 4 games.

The top teams in each club will play at 5:45 pm Saturday and 12 noon Sunday.
These teams met in the All-American tournament last November, and Minnesota
beat Ohio State 4-3.

The novice teams of the two clubs will play at 1:15 pm Saturday and 1:45 pm
Sunday. All games are at the OSU Ice Rink on Lane Avenue in Columbus.

Tomorrow the Seals with myself and Nancy Gromet/Degen who I believe is on
this list. This will be my first time with a stick in my hand since Dec
24. Nance had a two point game while I was away, and we won't be sharing
the ice tomorrow night as she will be skiing. Hopefully I'll do her
absence just as good as she did mine. (and I'm an English major?)

Recently there was a post about a composite list of women's college
hockey teams. It included both club and varsity level programs.

Is there any interest out there for compiling a list of teams that
are not associated with any school?

I played on the Wisconsin club team as a graduate student and when I
moved to the Chicago area I was lucky to find a community team to play
on. I found the team rather easily, but in some areas this might not
be as simple of a task, and I was thinking that a list like this could
be useful.

So, if there is interest out there, I would even be willing to help
get the thing started and see what happens.

I will be playing in a tournament in the twin cities with the Chicago
Ice the first weekend in February. I was wondering if anyone else on
this list is playing in it. I play on our teams C squad, but our B
team is also in the tourney.

Yes, Wendy, since this list is supposed to be for women-in-hockey I've
liked the notion that it's emphasis is playing rather than spectating.
I've just thrown in my little two cents even though I'm not playing on a
college team or even on a womens team. I hope nobody minds. I'm just
thinking of younger women who want to get into hockey, but don't know
where to go or what it will be like. We have to remember that not all of
us are from the lakes areas, but I think just examples of what's out
there nation wide helps everyone get involved. I say go for it.

That list was the same as the one published in USA Hockey's American Hockey
magazine (after I complained to them that their first list had *omitted*
all the women's club teams.) I know that the club teams at West Virginia
University and at Bowling Green State University were left off the list.

In the USA, the place to start in finding a female team is to contact the
Girls/Women's Section Representative for your district. In Ontario, you
call the OWHA (the governing body for female hockey), and in other Canadian
provinces you call the governing body for amateur hockey. In all these
cases, the regional rep or provincial governing body will have a list of
teams/organizations, but they may be last year's contacts for last year's
registered teams, and they don't necessarily know about new local initiatives
to start female hockey programs.

Perhaps it would be useful to get the female hockey contact lists from each
Girls'/Women's Rep, post them to the world wide web and/or mail them out,
asking people to provide more recent information, including "leads" on
prospective teams and associations which have not yet made it to USA Hockey's
lists. Such a contact list could include information about how many teams
of each age division the association has in 94-95. I have the list from
Mid-Am District, as well as some more recent information about the clubs
in Mid-Am.

And just a reminder - if you ever move to a city (or a college campus) where
there is no female hockey, but there is an ice rink, don't take no for an
answer! *You* can start female hockey in your area, with help from the
regional rep/provincial governing body. If anyone would like to discuss
starting female hockey programs, feel free to write to me.

Apologies to the overseas members of the list for the North American bias of
this post due to my own limited experience ....

I have to correct my roommate Louise.

Ohio State beat the University of Minnesota 4-3 in the All American Tournament,
not vice versa.

Yes, in fact if people want to send me info on this, I'll start pulling
together a web page.

Ditto school programs, schedules and whatever else we want to make
publically available.

I have to apologize for being an absent host. I'd meant to prime the pump
and get some conversation started, but I've been swamped and simply haven't
had time.

So anyway, as an easy ice-breaker: who's out there? Where do you play? What
do you expect out of this list? Let's see if we can figure out what we want
this place to look like when it grows up.
